We had companion controls installed on my power chair from the beginning. Early on, we primarily used the companion controls to move the power chair around the house.

When I could no longer control the chair on my own, my family and friends drove me around with these controls. I am now completely dependent on backseat drivers when I’m out and about. I can use my eye gaze Ability Drive controls to drive and control my chair inside. However, it is usually easier and safer for my caregivers to drive me around.

The companion controls also allow my caregivers to adjust my chair from the back. This is very helpful when I need adjustments to stay comfortable.

We definitely recommend getting these controls on the chair from the beginning.
