Key verses

Matthew 28:18-20 (NLT)

Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

2 Corinthians 5:20 (NLT)

So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”

Why I do what I do, this way

When we realized that I likely had ALS, Sheila and I trusted that God has a plan for us. Jeremiah 29:11 became the theme verse for this new stage of our life. I often say that God has a plan for me even if I don’t know what it is. Although I wish I did. This is the epitome of faith and trust.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Jeremiah 29:11

As I started this journey, we shared our personal story in our CaringBridge journal. I was still working at the time, and I needed a non-business platform to share my personal story with anyone. I shared some of my stories on my blog and LinkedIn where work and faith intersected. We also share on Facebook, but that is often missed. We used CaringBridge to journal our life and faith for years.

I felt the desire (or call) to do more, but none of the platforms were well suited to what I wanted to do. In September 2025, I started this website to be that platform. The website helps me fulfill multiple pillars of my call. As a Christian with ALS, I share my faith directly through devotionals like this one. I like the opportunity to dig into the Bible and share my faith with you.

Next, early on in my journey, I wanted to share how I was navigating the practical needs of living and working with ALS. I created a Working with ALS series on my blog and YouTube channel. I also created many Living with ALS videos. This was good, but I wanted to do more. The website has become a place where I can serve the broader ALS community with the ALS Toolbox and a resource directory.  I am seeing this information help others with their ALS journey. My focus continues to be on practical support for living with ALS.

The why? Jesus commissions me to teach about him and to serve like him. I firmly believe that running this website is what God calls me to do. I hope others will find hope and help here.

Parting thoughts

This is not my typical devotional. I hope that you can see how God is choosing to use me and this website to fulfill his calling for my life with ALS. This is not how I saw my life at this stage. God has a plan for me. Not for disaster, but full of hope.
