Renewing my love of reading

books

For a while now, I have been thinking I need to read more books. I was motivated this past October to see if I could get the Kindle reader working in my communication app, Communicator. No such luck. I did get to restart the device though. 😊

I ended up downloading the Kindle app for Windows. This is working well, so what to read? I wanted to give you an update on my reading fun. I am enjoying reading so much again. Since I started reading again, I have finished three nonfiction Christian books, three fiction books, and one technology book.

The reading list

I read Crazy Love by Francis Chan. I wrote about the impact of the God’s love on my perspective of dying in this blog post. Next, I read The Pursuit of God by AW Tozer. I liked the book and found these words applicable to my situation.

Or if he must see them go, one after one, he will scarcely feel a sense of loss, for having the Source of all things he has in One all satisfaction, all pleasure, all delight. Whatever he may lose he has actually lost nothing, for he now has it all in One, and he has it purely, legitimately and forever.

The third book was Every Good Endeavor by Timothy Keller. As someone who didn’t work in a “sacred” field, I find this book compelling. Something I never thought about before was that God used some key individuals in “secular” positions to get his will accomplished including Joseph, Esther, Nehemiah, and Daniel. It was very encouraging.

On the fiction front, I have completed the three original books in the Circle series by Ted Dekker. It was fun to read them again. It’s been ten years since I last read them – Black, Red, White. I will be reading Green for the first time next.

I also read SQL for Data Analytics which is an excellent book for analysts, programmers, and anyone else who wants to delve into SQL and learn how to navigate data in relational databases. The authors use exercises to learn hands-on skills and activities to solve business problems which reinforce what the reader is learning. I would recommend this book as a great way to learn SQL and broaden your data analytics skills.

What’s next on my reading list

I plan to finish the Circle series and have started reading Green already. I have also started reading Condoleezza Rice’s memoir and Who Is This Man? by John Ortberg. After these books, I am considering reading Vince Flynn’s series about Mitch Rapp or some Tom Clancy. I am excited to see what else comes my way.

Reading is a great pleasure for me. I am so glad I downloaded the Kindle app on my Tobii device. I would love to hear about what you are reading these days.
